Consumer Arbitration Committees Receive Applications for Internet Subscriptions the Most

Attorney Seyit Halil Yüzgeç remarked that a total of 593 thousand 505 applications were made to the consumer arbitration committee in 2020, according to the data of the Ministry of Commerce. Stating 521 thousand 148 of such applications were concluded, Mr. Yüzgeç expressed that the value of conflict of such applications was approximately 860 million 778 thousand and 208 Turkish Lira.

Highlighting that a total of 216 thousand 143 applications were received by the consumer arbitration committees in the first 5 months of 2021, Mr. Yüzgeç stated that 270 thousand 230 of such files were concluded. Mr. Yüzgeç said that nearly 52 percent of such conflicts concluded in favor of consumers.

Evaluating the conflicts addressed by the consumer arbitration committees based on products and services, Attorney Yüzgeç said that the main conflict subject was internet subscriptions with 22 thousand 380 applications. Mr. Yüzgeç expressed that this was followed by applications regarding mobile phones with 14 thousand 466 applications and credit cards related issues with 13 thousand 277 applications and shoes related issues with 12 thousand 49 applications.

Evaluating the issue by sectors, Mr. Yüzgeç highlighted that the applications were related to the retailing sector the most, followed by subscriptions services and financial services sector and said that the value of the conflicts in the mentioned period was 329 million 238 thousand 477 Turkish Lira.

More than Half of the Applications Made Electronically

Mr. Yüzgeç remarked that 137 thousand 731 applications were made to consumer arbitration committees electronically though e-state in 2019 while the number of electronical applications was 299 thousand 597 in 2020. Attorney Yüzgeç said that 199 thousand 942 electronic applications were made in the first 5 months of this year, 55 percent of which were through e-state.
