A lawsuit has been filed against Adnan Özdemir who jammed a vehicle for zigzagging in traffic and led the death of 7 people as a result of the accident and has fled abroad after the accident, for the accusation of 'killing and injuring by gross carelessness'. Having lost 5 children and 2 grandchildren in the accident, Safiye Üzüm asked the murderer to be caught immediately.
The automobile with the license plate 38 E 4730 driven by Mehmet Üzüm driving from Malatya to Kayseri crashed head-on the ambulance with the license plate 41 BD 308 coming from the opposite direction and transporting mortal remains to Malatya as a result of being jammed by the automobile with the license plate 38 KY 432 driven by Adnan Özdemir who allegedly was zigzagging in March 25th, 2018 in Nalçik Boulevard of the central district of Kayseri, Kocasinan. As a result of the accident, Mehmet (36), Zehra (29), Safiye Nur (6), Hamza (8), Mustafa (29) and Soner Üzüm (29) were killed. Injured heavily in the accident, Kader Üzüm lost her life 8 days after in hospital.
Sofa bed manufacturer, Adnan Özdemir who allegedly has caused the accident is determined to have fled to Georgia from Artvin Sarp border gate 30 hours after the accident. In the bill of indictment prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it is stated that the suspect Adnan Özdemir weaved in and out of traffic carelessly and speedily inside the city in between the cars, and right after his maneuvre towards the left lane, he crashed the car driven by Mehmet Üzüm. With the effect of crash, the car driven by Mr. Üzüm passed to the opposite lane and crashed head-on to the ambulance used by Atilla Hazar. It is expressed that Adnan Özdemir causing the accident where 7 people lost their lives commited the alleged crime by causing death and injury by acting carelessly as the principal negligent party. It is also expressed in the bill of indictment that Mr. Özdemir is likely to have been intoxicated at the night of the accident.
Having accepted the bill of indictment, 3rd Heavy Penal Court of Kayseri decided to open a case about Mr. Özdemir for the crime 'causing death by dangerous driving'.
Attorney Seyit Halil Yüzgeç, the owner of Seyit Halil Yüzgeç Law office which is one of Kayseri law offices, has taken on the advocacy of Üzüm family. Attorney Seyit Halil Yüzgeç remarked that the suspect had fled abroad after the accident and been free since then and said: "There is no meaning of issuing a warrant in Turkey. The person is determined to have fled abroad. It is urgent that an international warrant about the suspect be issued."
Having explained that the law office had been working intensely about the incident, Attorney Yüzgeç said "In the following hearings, a red notice for the suspect was issued and the suspect started to be searched by Interpol. In the hearing held in May, 20th 2021; the chief judge affirmed that the suspect had been caught in Georgia and brought to Artvin. The prosecutor asked in his opinion that the suspect be penalized for the crime 'causing death by dangerous driving.' The prosecutor also expressed that the suspect would be included in the upcoming hearing via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS).
Having lost her 5 children and 2 grandchildren in the accident, Safiye Üzüm said she had been cut to the bone and expressed her feelings: "I cannot sleep at nights. My 5 doors have been locked. I have been left lonely and abandoned. There is nothing I can do but cry. I buried my 7 very young children. I cannot stand it any more. I want the murderer of my 7 children to be punished as soon as possible."
